No Pirate Teeth!

Ava had her 2nd dentist appointment yesterday! We tried a different doctor for her this time - I took her to my dentist. She did great! Actually, it seemed like she really enjoyed herself. She even got to wear headphones to listen to the TV hanging above the chair...kids these days really are going to be soft. She was so mature and confident - she answered all their questions herself and she even remembered to say "thank you." Her teeth look great and they told us that we can start flossing at home now. The Dentist also told me to go ahead and start saving for braces because Ava has a deep bite and an overbite. If I had to guess, I'd say that Chris is upstairs right now researching the cost of braces and creating an "Operation Ava's Braces" spreadsheet. If only I were kidding...

Auntie Carrie is in town, from Louisiana, for Christmas! We're all so excited! Carrie brought with her a cute project to do with Ava. She even went to the dentist with us! Ava wants to know when she's going to see Carrie again - she's a fan!

Celebration In Lights

On Sunday evening we told Ava that we had a surprise for her and we piled the kids into the car. After a short drive we arrived at the Celebration In Lights (ticket courtesy of Honey, thanks!). Ava was in awe. She said, "I cannot believe this!" and "Daddy, this is a nice surprise." She was genuinely thrilled about all the festive lights.

Before leaving the house we turned Linc's car seat around so that he could actually see the lights. This was his very first time facing forward in the car! He was pointing at everything saying, "See?!" I think he was most impressed by all the buttons on the dash. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived at the Celebration in Lights, Linc was on his way to dream land. He barely managed to stay awake during the drive through the lights - twirling his hair in both hands and sucking on his bottom lip.

Lincoln's First Hair Cut

We finally surrendered and decided to get Linc's hair cut. It's a subtle difference...Chris likes it...I'm anxious for it to grow back out... No matter what, this kid is crazy cute! He did really well. He wasn't thrilled about having to sit still for longer than 5 seconds but Chris kept him occupied by showing him pictures on the camera.

Here are pictures of Linc's first salon adventure...

Zsa Zsa & The Great Blizzard of '09

We enjoyed a lovely few days with Zsa Zsa's company last week! At the same time as Zsa Zsa's visit we were hit with what they're calling "The Blizzard of '09." If you live in the 757 then you know it was an anticlimactic event. I'm embarrassed to post our "snow" pictures after viewing those of my brother, who lives a mere 60 miles from us.

Ava and Lincoln loved having their totally awesome Aunt around for a few days. Chris and I always enjoy Court's company as well. Both kids got LOTS of cuddle and play time with Zsa Zsa...apparently, I only took pictures of Ava with Zsa Zsa though :-/

Movie time! How much you wanna bet that they're watching, "Prep & Landing"?

We didn't make it to Christmas Town, thanks to the Blizzard of '09, but it was still a fun visit! We miss you already, Court!

Happy Holidays!

Last week we celebrated the holiday season at Ava's pre-school with all her friends and their families. The kids sang songs that they had been rehearsing and they took turns breaking a Piñata that they spent weeks creating. It was pretty cute! Zsa Zsa was in town visiting and Chris was enjoying his first day off from work so it was a family affair.

Here are the pictures...

Sweetness

This is from a while ago. It was so sweet that I wrote it down on a piece of paper so I wouldn't forget to blog it. I just came across the piece of paper...

Ava to Me: "Let me give you a big squishy hug."

~HUG~

Me: "I love you so much. Do you know that?"

Ava: "Yeah."

Me: "Don't ever forget."

Ava: "OK. I won't. I'll keep the hugs inside my head."

T-R-O-U-B-L-E

It's his middle name...

Santa, Baby!

What a fun weekend! We went to Richmond and had lunch with SANTA! The girls were so brave this year. Sam told Santa that she wants a new TV with a remote control and Ava told the big guy that she would like a doll house at her house (remember, she has my old one at Honey & Papa's house). Linc was not a fan of Santa's...at all.

After we spent some QT with Santa we went to Uncle Ryan and Bryan's house. I don't know if Ava was more excited to see Santa or Bryan. I overindulged in the best BBQ I have ever had in my entire life thanks to Bryan's ridiculous cooking. Ryan, the champagne was also delish! But, OMG, the BBQ...

Picture time!

Like Father, Like Son

The apple didn't fall far from the tree...

Meet Elvis

Several days ago our house was charmed with the presence of a very special little Elf sent to us by Santa himself. He arrived with a book that helped explain the purpose of his company. Turns out, he's going to visit us every day until Christmas! He's here to keep an eye on Ava and Lincoln for Santa. Every night, after everyone is sound asleep, he flies back to the North Pole and reports to Santa. Then he flies all the way back to Williamsburg, VA and repositions himself somewhere in our house where he can keep an eye on everyone. There are some rules: we can speak to the Elf but we may not touch him and he can not speak to us. Also, we had to name him! Our little family had to decide on a name for this very special Elf from the North Pole. Meet Elvis...

As I'm sure you can imagine, this little dude is a big hit in our house! For Ava, he's the difference between eating dinner or not eating dinner, taking a nap or not taking a nap, sharing with her brother or not sharing with her brother. It's like peace on Earth under our roof! I wish there were a year-round-Elf...probably too expensive to insure though... :-P

Updates-R-Us

For a split second I forgot how to create a new blog post…it’s been THAT long. I don’t know how this happened. It might be a record. Let’s hope it never happens again!

Truth is, we’re busy. Surprise. We’re competing with Thanksgiving, Linc’s Birthday, Chris’ Birthday and Christmas! I’m certain that I’ve forgotten a good majority of what I wanted to blog about…here goes my best shot!

Thanksgiving was wonderful in Myrtle Beach this year. It was lovely to catch up with family members from afar. The kids had a blast. Ava loves the holidays and her family so she was beside herself. She was a big fan of Myrtle Beach and she did a phenomenal job traveling. Honestly, I don’t think that she could have been any better. We were so relieved! The minute we arrived to the condo in MB Ava selected her bedroom, which was originally planned to be Kyle and Lindsey’s room. Luckily, Joan and Andy had an extra room in their condo only several levels below and Kyle and Lindsey were happy to stay there. Five minutes after bringing our belongings up from the car Ava was moving into her room. She neatly lined her books up on the bookshelf and carefully placed her shoes in a row under her dresser. She’s amazing.

Lincoln also seemed to like the beach, however, he was irritable the whole time. He didn’t sleep. He had a cold and the croup cough. That was grueling on Chris and me but we survived. After we returned home we discovered a new tiny little tooth in his mouth so we’re assuming that the tiny little tooth was the culprit. Because Linc didn’t sleep at night he ended up falling asleep in random places during the day.

Here are some pictures from our Thanksgiving adventures (in no particular order)…

It took Linc some time but he eventually warmed up to Uncle Scott and then they were best buds...

Meet Lucy, Ava's Build-a-Bear! This is the perfect age for Build-a-Bear! Ava was totally into it. She picked out everything - the bear, the clothes and the name. Isn't she darling...

Ninny and Ava inside the Aquarium... Ava was confused as to why there was a sword in the stone. I remember being confused by that too when I was a youngster.

Lounging in Ava's room...

We went to the mall on Black Friday - not sure what I was thinking - and they had this Bungy Jumping contraption set up. Ava didn't hesitate when Ninny asked her if she wanted to do it. I was shocked. Here's a video of her...in her dress...bungy jumping.

In other news, Lincoln is a year old now. I was informed, via a Babycenter email update, that Linc is no longer considered a “baby” rather he is a “toddler” now. I doubt that I’m the only Mom who chooses to ignore this tidbit. I’m having a heck of a time dealing with the fact that my kids are growing up. I hope I can pull it together in the next fifteen years so that I’m not one of those Moms in mourning at my kid’s high school graduation. Seriously, though. He made out very well at his one-year check up. He weighs 22 lbs (40th %) and he’s 32” tall (96th %). His head circumference is 47 cm, which is the 68th percentile. He’s a healthy boy and so far he’s right on track developmentally. I’ve been making a conscious effort to introduce new foods/textures into his diet and the only food that he has turned down is oatmeal. He eats everything from cheerios and cottage cheese to Curried Spinach and Pea soup and Scrambled Tofu! Linc is working on learning how to fall asleep on his own. Up until now he’s been rocked to sleep but we want to break the habit before he gets much older and wiser. He does very well at naptime but bedtime is a different story. Hopefully it’ll work itself out soon. Here is a picture from the one-year photo shoot we did…
