Behold my amazingly incredible Mother's Day gift from Chris...
We pick her up in three weeks!
We've been itching to have another big dog since forever ago. Our family just doesn't feel complete without one. We tried to be patient and our plan was to wait a year after moving to Seattle. This probably would have been a realistic goal if we'd moved anywhere other than Seattle. However, we just happened to move to one of the most dog friendly cities. Dogs are everywhere. It's overwhelming for people like us and we caved. Our neighbor's dog, Kenai, is a Siberian Husky. We fell head over heels in love with Kenai. Our neighbor gave us the breeder's information and I looked into it to learn more about the breed. Also, she mentioned that when a litter is available they have live puppy cams and I totally wanted to watch those! Unfortunately, at the time, there were no litters available. Then, one day, our neighbor told us that she checked the website and there were two litters! I hopped online and pretty much spent the rest of the day watching the litters crawl around I read up on the parents. I quickly targeted one of the litters and kept an eye on the pups. All but two dogs were already spoken for. Chris and I quickly fell for one of the remaining females. We watched her, almost every day, and talked and talked about the possibility. I was trying really hard to be "responsible" so I'd pretty much written off the idea of getting her. Instead, I was preparing myself for the realization that eventually someone else would claim her :-( We let it go for a couple weeks and then Mother's Day rolled around. That's when Chris surprised me with the Puppy Application form in my Mother's Day card. He agreed that we couldn't wait another minute and that we ought to see about getting her. I was so happy that I cried. Of course, there was drama involved in getting her though. After filling out the application, the breeder informed me that, as of THAT morning, a family in Colorado had already placed a deposit on that puppy. After dealing with that loss, they sent me another email explaining that the family in Colorado was reconsidering because they didn't want to pay the shipping cost. The breeder explained that the pup could be ours...I ran home and sent in the deposit! Boom! We're now the proud parents of a four-week-old Siberian Husky pup and we named her Stella. We're REALLY excited and REALLY nervous. The kids are anxious, Linc wants her here yesterday. Louis is clueless. In three weeks we get to pick her up and bring her home. This is a cool tidbit about her parents: her Mom is from NC and Dad is from VA. Crazy, huh? Anyway, if you want to watch her sweetness on the Puppy Cam you can do so here. She's in Lola and Joe's litter, camera on the right. The camera is only up from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. (Pacific Time). Stella had her four-week vet check-up yesterday and she's doing great! Here's what her breeder had to say about her: "Stella: Stella is a VERY good eater....first one at the dish and last to leave....lol. She is definitely a water baby and loves to take a 'dip' in the water dish whenever it suits her. She is another one that will stir up the chaos, just to get it going." Apparently, Stella and another pup in her litter are competing for the Alpha role.
