Conversations II

Lincoln has been doing exceptionally well sleeping lately (knock on wood…many times…until knuckles are red).  He takes a couple naps in his crib during the day and only wakes once during the night.  He naps in his crib but he wakes crying a few times during his nap.  Though, it’s nothing that a little rub on his back won’t remedy.  I consider this progress.  Regardless of what time he goes to bed he usually wakes at 6:30 a.m. every day and boy does he wake up angry.  I try to let him work out his issues before I run in to rescue him, meaning, I let him cry for 5 to 10 minutes before interfering.  I use that time to brush my teeth, get dressed, etc.  He almost always works it out himself and falls back asleep before I get to him.  Then he’ll sleep for another hour.  It’s fabulous.

Well, Ava hears Lincoln crying for 10 minutes so now she wakes up at 6:30 a.m. too.  I think they planned this…they’re out to get me, these kids.  Ava quickly learned that if she wakes up early then she gets to see Daddy before he goes to work and this is such a treat for her.  As soon as she hears Linc let out his first 6:30 a.m. whimper I hear her jump out of bed, open her door and run down the hall toward our room.

Ava: “Mama, is it tomorrow?”

Me: “Yes, Love, it’s Thursday.”

Ava: “Oh.  Does Zsa Zsa come here today??”

Me: "Yes.  Today is finally the day that Zsa Zsa comes here."

Ava: big smile

She’s so silly in the morning – energized and full of wonder!  She follows Chris around, like a shadow, and helps him pick out clothes, offers his shoes to him and tells him stories.  I listen to them interact while I get ready…

Ava: “Daddy?  What do you put in your pants?”

Chris: “Huh?”

Ava: “Um…”

Chris: “What are you trying to say, sweetie?”

Ava (slightly irritated): “I’m tryin’ to say, do you wear panties?”

Ava has been curious lately about why Daddy doesn’t wear panties and she keeps forgetting what his undergarments are called.  A while back she explained to me that “we need to go to the store for Daddy to buy him panties so that he doesn’t pee on himself.”

Now Ava is watching Chris put on his belt…

Ava: “Why do you put on a seatbelt, Dada?”

Chris: “So my pants don’t fall off and it helps keep my shirt tucked in.”

Ava: “Mama’s pants are going to fall off.  She doesn’t wear a seatbelt.”

Finally, Lincoln has stopped yelling from his room.

Ava: “Mama!  Lincoln passed back asleep!”

I can’t have two posts in a row without a picture.  I snapped this yesterday at story time with my cell phone.  I tired sending it to Chris so he could see Linc sitting in the stroller like a big boy AND wearing overalls (Chris loves babies in overalls).  He never got the text so now it’s going on the blog.  It is blog-worthy after all…big boy sitting in the stroller decked out in some cute overalls.  I just can’t get over how big he is.  Ava says, “Mama, does it break your heart when I get big?”  Yes, yes, it breaks my heart.

Ice Cream!

Perhaps there is a bit of me in her after all...

Indiscreet

He does this all the time. In the grocery store. In the library. In the bookstore. Everywhere. All the time. There is the "panting" thing and then there is "that-for-which-I-do-not-have-a-description" thing.

Reunited

Samantha's birthday party was this weekend at My Gym and Ava was so excited to be reunited with Sambo. The girls hardly listened during the circle time games. Instead they explored the gym together. They had fun!

On our way to Sam's party...

Let the exploration begin...

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

In honor of Earth Day, a recent photo of the garden. Pretty soon it'll be overflowing with tasty veggies!

Last weekend we went to an Earth Day Celebration at the park.  Here are some photos!

Ava actually pet a snake!  I couldn't believe it!

This is before our up close and personal demonstration of the fish living in the reservoir.  I did a really good job when the man held the fish for Ava to look not to say, "Ew!  Gross!!!!!"  Instead, I miraculously pulled out some, "Awesome!  Ava!  Look!"  Next time I'll be wise enough to send Chris to look at the fish with her.

The kids modeling their homemade Earth Day shirts!  Yes, they wore them to the celebration and will wear them proudly today as well.

Well, now look at this!

Make that two...

Two new words today!

"Interesting"

We're looking at pictures...

Ava: "What is she doing?"

Me: "Ah, I'm not entirely sure..."

Ava: "Hmm.  IntEResTING."

Ahh, she's a trip!

Word of the Day is...

"Nevermind."

Ava: “Mommy? Do we have peas or did Daddy take them to work today?

Me: “Peas??”

Ava: “Ugh, nevermind.”

Hanging with her "bro" as she refers to him...

Feeding the ducks and fish...

Do you think she's over dressed?

I think she goes to story time just so she can visit the fountain afterwards...

She's amazed that there is music coming out of the rocks.  She didn't hesitate to bust a move right after this pic was taken.

Rain Drops Are Fallin' On My Head...

What to do on a rainy day? Take the new Little Mermaid umbrella for a stroll, of course!

But first, look, she can write her name all by herself. I absolutely did not help her at all with this one... She's a smart cookie. Sometimes her letter "v" is upside down ;-)

YUM!

Rice Cereal

Linc tried rice cereal for the first time recently! It was rather anticlimactic... He was cute about it. He wasn't sure what we expected him to do with it, so he smiled a lot. He didn't seem to mind the taste, or lack thereof, at all. He has tried it a couple times since and he has gotten much better with the mechanics. In fact, this morning he demanded more (through grunts) after he emptied his bowl. He smiles at you until you get the spoon up to his mouth, then he gets a serious face and ever so gently opens his mouth. Sometimes the cereal comes right back out of his mouth and other times he chomps on it and somehow gets it down. Then he smiles again and we carry on...

It seems that Linc has learned a lot over night. He's a little monkey! Chris and I both quickly realized that if you're holding something in your hand (phone, remote, etc.) he's quick to grab it. He's much more talkative also. He squeels a lot. He also likes to get a good grasp on Chris' arm hair and make Daddy squeel ;-)

Happy Easter

We had an eventful Easter yesterday. We visited Uncle Ryan & Uncle Bryan and went to the Monument Avenue Easter Parade. Uncle Ryan set up an easter egg hunt for Ava. 24-hours later and she still hasn't separated herself from the easter basket and its goodies.

Uncle Ryan's Easter bunny drawing...

Pictures from the Monument Ave parade...

Ava was absolutely terrified of the Easter bunny.  I can't blame her!
